Xavi Hernandez has agreed to extend his contract at Qatar based Al-Sadd for the 2020-2021 season. The decision has put the former midfielders awaited return to FC Barcelona on hold for at least another season. Al-Sadd has confirmed the extension through their official website.
With Xavi signing an extension in Qatar, the Barcelona legend has ended all speculations on a possible quick return to the Blaugrana next season. Xavi has been considered as one of the frontrunners to replace Quique Setien if the under pressure Spanish manager receives the sack after this season.
And with his extension, Xavi has added the impression he will be a huge part of next year’s presidential elections at Barcelona. Former president Joan Laporta will reportedly be one of the candidates to replace Josep Maria Bartomeu and it is believed that Xavi will be appointed as the new boss once Laporta wins the elections.
