Barcelona president hints at Real Madrid bias: VAR always favours the same team

FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has accused the VAR of favouring certain teams in La Liga, making a massive hint that the system has a special treatment for Real Madrid. The club president made the statement after he saw his Barcelona side beat Villarreal 4-1, which saw Barcelona move four points behind Madrid.

Bartomeu revealed he had watched Madrid’s 1-0 win over Athletic and couldn’t believe the decisions that were made by the VAR. Madrid won the game by a converted 76th minute penalty kick from Sergio Ramos after the incident that lead to the penalty was viewed by the VAR. Another moment that could have awarded Athletic a penalty was not viewed.

“I watched San Mames match until almost the end of the second half,” Bartomeu said after Barca’s victory. “I feel bad because we have the best league in the world and VAR after coronavirus isn’t fair. It has changed some results and always favours the same team.”
