Real Madrid will face Alaves without star defenders due to suspension

Real Madrid continue their hunt for the Spanish La Liga this week with a home game against relegation battling Alaves. Real boss Zinedine Zidane will face a defensive headache as two of his star defenders will definitely miss the game due to a suspension. Captain Sergio Ramos and right-back Dani Carvajal will be forced to sit out the game from the stands.

Both players picked up their fifth league booking of the season in the 1-0 weekend win at Athletic Bilbao, and will now serve a one game ban. The absence of the two Spanish defenders will cause a real problem for Real and Zidane as the French boss is already short of defensive options.

Raphael Varane missed the game at San Mames due to a neck problem and it is unclear if the France international will be able to play. Varane will face a last minute test later on this week. The defensive problems could mean Zidane will need to position Lucas Vazquez at right-back to replace Carvajal.
