Ajax are interested in signing Southampton‘s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, reports Voetbal International. The 24-year-old Denmark international is seen as a potential reinforcement for Erik Ten Hag’s midfield. The former Bayern Munich midfielder is reportedly set for a transfer after he refused to extend his current contract beyond 2021.
Until recently, Hojbjerg was captain of the Premier League side, but the arm band was taken away after he rejected to sign a new contract. Despite losing the captaincy, Hojbjerg is still considered to be a first team choice. This season he has made 30 appearances for Southampton and the midfielder has played 106 games overall in the Premier League for the Saints since joining them in 2016.
Despite the interest from Ajax being very serious, Hojbjerg also has options in the Premier League with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur interested. It is unclear if both sides want to activate their interest and battle Ajax in signing the Dane. If he decides to join Ajax, Hojbjerg will team up with his former Southampton team-mate Dusan Tadic, while he has also worked with Erik Ten Hag at the second team of Bayern Munich in the 2013/2014 season.
