Lazio defender Patric has been banned for four games for biting Lecce’s Giulio Donati on Tuesday. The Italian disciplinary commission gave its verdict on Wednesday. The former FC Barcelona defender bit Donati in his arm, resulting in a late red card. Meanwhile, the victim has already forgiven Patric.
“He did nothing to me and apologised straight after, so bear that in mind,” he told ANSA after the match. “I also live with emotions so I understand Patric why, in such a hard-fought game, did what he did. Patric apologised straight after. His gesture was rightfully punished with a red, but it didn’t do me any harm.”
Next to his four match ban, the defender has also been given a €10.000 fine. He will miss Lazio’s Serie A games with Sassuolo, Udinese and Cagliari, plus the big game against title rivals Juventus. Rebic’s four match ban is nothing compared to the ban Luis Suarez received as a Liverpool player. The Uruguayan was given a ten match ban in England and he received a four month global suspension for biting Chelsea‘s Branislav Ivanovic and Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini.
