Mesut Ozil ready to leave Arsenal, but only for MLS or Turkey

Mesut Ozil has reportedly told Arsenal he is prepared to leave the club this summer. The midfielder is the highest paid player at the Emirates Stadium but doesn’t feature in the plans of boss Mikel Arteta. The Gunners are keen on offloading the expensive German and have now found a possibility to make it happen this summer.

The Sun reports that Ozil has told the club he is prepared to move clubs, but will only sign for a club from the Major League Soccer in the United States or a club from Turkey. It is unclear if Ozil is prepared to accept a major wage drop to complete a move away from Arsenal this summer or that he will wait out his current deal at the club and leave on a free transfer in 2021 once his contract has expired.

Ozil joined Arsenal in 2013 in a transfer worth €47.5m from Real Madrid. The attacking midfielder instantly made an impact under Arsene Wenger and became one of the club’s major stars. In recent seasons Ozil’s form has been rapidly declining and ever since Wenger left, the midfielder has had troubles finding a spot in the Arsenal’s first team. Ozil has not featured for Arsenal since the return of the Premier League in June.
