Eddie Nketiah will serve a three match ban after Arsenal’s appeal against the forward’s red card versus Leicester City has failed. Due to Nketiah’s red card, the Gunners failed to win their home game against the Foxes as they were held to a 1-1 draw. The striker was introduced on the pitch as a substitute in the second half, but was sent off after four minutes.
Referee Kevin Cavenagh initially showed Nketiah a yellow card for his challenge on Leicester City defender James Justin, but after consulting the VAR the referee decided to pull a red card instead. After the game Arsenal attempted to get the decision overturned on the grounds of wrongful dismissal, but the FA have rejected the appeal.
Nketiah is now set to miss the upcoming Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, while he wil always miss the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on July18. The England U21 international has been in good form for the Gunners since he returned from loan at Leeds in January. He has scored 4 games in his last 13 games.
