Tammy Abraham has extended his contract at Chelsea by another year to 2023 after the striker triggered an automatic one year extension as he reached 15 Premier League goals this season. The English forward was on the score sheet in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace this week.
The automatic extension has given Chelsea more options on their plans with Abraham. The youngster has been Frank Lampard’s first choice striker this season, but the youngster has not been performing well in 2020. There have been rumours that Chelsea are looking to sell Abraham and this extension will add some breathing room to make a decision.
With his goal against Crystal Palace, Abraham broke his 10-game goal drought and Lampard was happy the forward got back into scoring a goal again. “It will be really important for Tammy because he is desperate for goals,” Lampard said. “He hasn’t scored a for a while, it helps his confidence and it is good for me. It gives me other options.”
