Midfielder Frenkie de Jong could be making a swift return to FC Barcelona as the Dutch midfielder has resumed team training on Friday. While the match against Real Valladolid will be too soon for De Jong, it is expected that the midfielder will make a return to the Barcelona squad next week.
De Jong suffered a calf injury during Barcelona’s game against Real Mallorca, the first game after the coronacrisis pandemic in Spain. While he did make the squad several days later against Leganes, he was ruled out for over a month a couple of days later. De Jong has missed games Sevilla, Athletic, Celta Vigo, Atlético Madrid, Villarreal and Espanyol.
The former Ajax midfielder resumed training earlier this week, completing a personal program with the club’s fitness team. On Friday he was spotted during the training of the first team, even participating in a training match. During De Jong absence, Barcelona have dropped six points in La Liga and saw how their two point lead on Real Madrid turned into a four point gap.
