Barcelona agree terms with Martinez but will need to sell first

FC Barcelona have agreed personal terms, claim reports from Spain and Argentina. However, a transfer of the Internazionale striker will depend on Barcelona selling one or more players this summer as the club will need to generate funds to match Inter’s €100m asking price for Martinez.

The Argentine striker has been a transfer target for the Catalan giants for much of the season, having scored 17 goals in 38 games so far for Inter. ESPN have claimed that Martinez, 22, has reached a verbal agreement to move to Camp Nou. The report also claims that Barcelona still has to agree terms with Inter.

The report adds that Barcelona will face a challenge to sign Martinez. Inter has made clear they are not interested in a player swap and want cash only. Barcelona had hoped to include one or two players into the deal to lower the price for Martinez. Therefore, Barcelona will now have to sell to generate the funds needed to bring in Martinez.

Club-record signing Philippe Coutinho has been marked as the most likely player to leave the Nou Camp, but Barcelona will have to accept a massive loss on the €160m they paid Liverpool in January 2018. Other players who are tipped to leave Barcelona are Nelson Semedo, Ivan Rakitic and possibly Ousmane Dembele.
