Borussia Dortmund are hoping that FC Barcelona will sell Ousmane Dembele this summer. The French winger was signed by the Catalan giants in a transfer worth €105m, but has never fulfilled his potential at the Nou Camp. The French international has been suffering from many injuries, while he has been accused of a ‘lack of professionalism’.
Dembele’s misfortune at Barcelona has also had an effect on Borussia Dortmund. The Germans agreed to add a bonus structure into the deal, which could hand them a total of €40m extra. With Dembele spending most of his time on the sideline, Bild has reported that the Germans have collected only half of the agreed bonuses.
Meanwhile, Dortmund and Barcelona also agreed that if Dembele would be sold, the remaining bonuses would be paid out in full. This means the Germans will be collecting a total of €20m this summer if Dembele is sold. Dortmund would be happy to collect the other half of the Dembele bonus to invest in a long-term replacement for Jadon Sancho.
The English winger is still on the radar of Manchester United, but it might be possible that he will stay on at the Bundesliga giants for another season. Dortmund demand €120m for Sancho, a fee which can not be paid by United at the moment. It seems likely that Sancho will stay for another year at Dortmund and with the possible €20m from Dembele, the club will have a budget available to sign a replacement.
