Liverpool will not be pursuing Thiago Alcantara, reports ESPN. Earlier reports suggested that the Reds had already agreed personal terms with the Bayern Munich midfielder, but the latest rumours claim that Liverpool have cooled their interest in Thiago. According to the American network, Liverpool will only make a bid if they lose one of their current midfielders.
Despite Liverpool completing one transfer since 2018, the club has faith in Jurgen Klopp’s strategy to develop youth players. Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot have already made their debut for the club and have both signed new contracts last week. The Reds will only make a bid for Thiago if one of their midfield stars is sold this summer.
The decision by Liverpool could come as a blow for Thiago, who had reportedly set his sights on a move to the Premier League giants. The 29-year-old has decided to leave Bayern Munich after 7 seasons, in which he has won 7 league titles. Last week Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed Thiago had expressed the desire to leave Bayern this summer.
