Manchester City ready to break transfer record for Leicester City defender

Manchester City are ready to break their own transfer record to land Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu, reports Turkish media outlet Sozcu. The Turkish central defender would require the Citizens a club-record transfer fee of €80m to convince Leicester to sell their star defender this summer.

The 24-year-old was signed by Leicester from SC Freiburg in 2018 and he has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League. In his first season he was limited to only six appearances in the league, but after Harry Maguire left the club for Manchester United, Soyuncu has been able to establish himself as a steady Premier League defender.

Manchester City are keen to sign at least one defender during the summer transfer window, with a centre-back and a left-back being their top priority. Soyuncu has been added to the shortlist of Pep Guardiola, as the Turkish international could fit the profile of a typical Guardiola defender.
