Season over for Griezmann, fears forward will miss Champions League return

Injury worries for FC Barcelona as forward Antoine Griezmann has suffered a muscle injury to his upper leg. The club confirms that the France international will be out for the remainder of the La Liga season, while it remains unclear if he will be fit in time to face Napoli in the return of the Champions League on August 8.

Griezmann, who has not been enjoying a good first season at the Blaugranas, was limited to 45 minutes of play on Saturday in Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Real Valladolid. After the game Quique Setien already told reporters Griezmann had suffered an injury, but is was unclear how serious the problem was. On Sunday the club confirmed Griezmann will be out for at least four to six weeks.

This underlines the difficult season Griezmann has been having at the Nou Camp since he completed a €100m transfer from Atletico Madrid last summer. Since the return of La Liga in June Griezmann has spent most of his time on the bench at Barcelona, but was granted a start against Valladolid on Saturday.
