FC Barcelona are on the verge of signing a new striker for the future. According to Mundo Deportivo the Spanish giants have reached an agreement with Sao Paulo to sign 19-year-old forward Gustavo Maia. Is is reported that Barcelona will have to pay €3.5m for Maia and that a future sell-on clause will be added to the transfer.
Barcelona are looking ahead to the future and are preparing for life after Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Both stars are in their thirties and will not have many years left in them. Looking at Real Madrid, who signed Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes for the future, Barcelona are now also looking at the Brazilian market.
Gustavo Maia has not yet made his first team debut for Sao Paolo, playing his games in the reserve team of the club. He is described as a forward who looks for the pass, rather than shoot on goal. He could also play as a left winger in a similar role as Neymar, cutting inside. Neither Barcelona nor Sao Paulo have confirmed the transfer yet, but it is expected that won’t take too long.
