Chelsea beats Norwich to take huge step into the Champions League

Chelsea have taken a huge step towards Champions League qualification by beating Norwich City 1-0. Olivier Giroud became the hero of the night at Stamford Bridge by scoring the only goal of the night. With the win Chelsea take a four point lead over Leicester City and Manchester United, who both have a game in hand.

It was a quiet first part of the game. Chelsea had the ball, but weren’t able to challenge Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul. The Dutchman did had to make a save on an effort from Giroud. The home side did not perform well, but did manage to open the score in the first half with Giroud netting a nice flying header after a good cross by in-form Christian Pulisic.

Chelsea fans would have hoped for a better second half and more goals, but were left disappointed by their club. The game did not change after half-time with Chelsea having the ball but not being able to create many chances. Norwich, who have already been relegated from the Premier League, did not have the power to force an equaliser and that meant Chelsea would grab a small but very needed win.

The team of Frank Lampard now have a tight grip on fourth place, knowing that both Leicester City and Manchester United will still face each other on the final day of the season. Later this week the two teams will be able to close the gap to Chelsea, but it seems unlikely that both sides will be able to catch up with The Blues.
