Manchester City consider offer for ‘cheap’ Tottenham Hotspur defender

Manchester City are looking to strengthen their defense this summer. The dethroned champions have lost 9 Premier League matches this season and Pep Guardiola is keen on signing at least one new central defender and left-back. According to The Telegraph, Man City have now identified Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen as a short-term solution.

The Belgian defender can play both on left-back and as a central defender, which makes him an interesting target for Man City. The fact that Vertonghen will also be a free agent after the Premier League season makes him even more interesting for the Citizens this summer.

Vertonghen has spent eight years at Tottenham and the 33-year-old was offered a new contract with the club, but eventually failed to reach an agreement. It is widely expected that the defender will move abroad with Internazionale being tipped as a potential destination, but playing for Manchester City could be tempting enough for Vertonghen to stay in the Premier League.
