Manchester City saw their two-year Champions League ban lifted by the CAS on Monday and several reports from England have now suggested that the Citizens are ready to spend big during the summer window. Now the Daily Mirror claims that Man City are interested in signing Lautaro Martinez from Internazionale.
The 22-year-old Argentinian is considered to be the ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero, who is coming towards the end of his career at the Etihad Stadium. It might be possible that City plan to meet Inter’s transfer demands and pay up to €111m this summer, while it is also possible for City to use Aguero as a make weight for Martinez.
It has been suggested earlier that Inter would love to offer Aguero a two-year contract if he decides to leave Man City this summer. These rumours could help City to land Martinez, while Aguero would be able to move to Italy before he will end his career with his boyhood club Independiente in Argentina.
The news of Man City wanting Martinez could be a blow for FC Barcelona. The Spanish giants have been long-linked with the talented striker and president Josep Maria Bartomeu even confirmed that the two clubs have been in talks. However, he also revealed this week that talks are currently on hold and that a move for Martinez this summer will be unlikely due to their financial limitations regarding the effects of the corona crisis pandemic.
