In their search for a new goalkeeper, Chelsea have marked Atletico Madrid‘s Jan Oblak as their new primary target for next season. The Blues are ready to use Kepa Arrizabalaga as a makeweight in a deal to convince Atletico to sell their number one goalkeeper this summer. Express report that Chelsea will offer Kepa plus cash to sign Oblak.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard isn’t convinced by Kepa’s abilities and has instructed his club to find him a new goalkeeper. Many names have been linked with the spot at Stamford Bridge, with Ajax‘s Andre Onana being tipped as the hot favourite to land the job. However, according to the Mirror Chelsea would prefer to sign Oblak instead.
And it is believed that Chelsea will use Kepa as a make-weight to drop Atletico’s asking price for the Slovenian, who has a €135m buy-out clause. The Blues rate Kepa at €60m and would offer an additional €75m to Atletico Madrid, matching the total value of Oblak’s release clause. It is unclear if Oblak is open to a Premier League move or if he would prefer to stay at Atletico Madrid.
