Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is not surprised to hear and read that Chelsea want to sign his goalkeeper Jan Oblak. The Slovenian has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues over the past few days and reports have claimed that Chelsea are ready to match Oblak’s release clause in a player plus cash deal.
“It does not surprise me, every year our most important players are wanted by the best in the world,” Simeone said at a press conference. “It is normal to always look for the best – and we have many. Some have left and others have stayed. I am not surprised that Chelsea admire Jan Oblak, he is a decisive player for us.”
“But he is the captain and our participation every year in the Champions League helps us keep our best players so I hope he will continue with us.” Atletico Madrid have already secured their ticket for next season’s Champions League, while Chelsea could miss out on the tournament if they lose their last two Premier League games.
