Liverpool will not be able to beat Manchester City‘s point record in the Premier League. The Reds suffered their third league defeat of the season away at Arsenal on Wednesday (2-1). Jurgen Klopp’s side is having difficulties getting results ever since they clinched the title in the Premier League two weeks ago. This time Liverpool lost at the Emirates to Arsenal, who are still in the fight for European football.
The match in Londen, however, did start well for Liverpool. Andy Robertson found Sadio Mane, who had no troubles finding the first goal of the game. The home side was not able to make the play in the first half, but still went into half-time with a 2-1 lead. At first Virgil van Dijk made a blunder under pressure from Reiss Nelson, gifting Alexandre Lacazette the equalizer. Several moments later goalkeeper Alisson made a huge mistake, allowing Reiss Nelson to score the 2-1.
Liverpool would be trailing for the entire second half, despite creating enough chances to get an equaliser. It was Emiliano Martinez who kept his goal clean during the final 45 minutes with some excellent saves. Liverpool wasn’t able to break Arsenal’s defense and with the clock running down, the Reds failed to score a second goal. Due to the loss, Liverpool will stay at 93 points and will not be able to beat Man City’s 100 point record in the Premier League anymore.
