Xavi Hernandez has already agreed personal terms to become the next FC Barcelona manager. Reports from Spain have claimed that the former midfielder has met with club officials in Qatar recently and that there has been an ‘agreement in principal’. Xavi is being lined up to replace current boss Quique Setien either this summer or in 2021.
While Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted that Setien will still be in charge next season, it has been rumoured that the 61-year-old will be replaced if he fails to win the Champions League after he already failed to win the La Liga title this season. But even if Setien will be allowed to stay on next season, he is looking to be replaced from the 2021/2022 season.
Xavi signed a new contract at his Qatari club Al-Sadd last month, but there are reports that he now has a clause inserted which would allow him to move to Barcelona free-of-charge. It is thought that Xavi has agreed to return to his boyhood club as their new manager, but only if Jordi Cruyff is appointed as the technical director and he wants to replace the full coaching and medical staff.
