Karim Benzema hopes to return to his boyhood club Olympique Lyon some day, claims his former agent Karim Djaziri. The French forward left the club in 2009, signing for Real Madrid. In recent years Benzema has developed into a leading player at the Spanish giants, becoming the club’s star player since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club for Juventus two seasons ago.
The 32-year-old still has a contract until the summer of 2022 at Madrid, but Djaziri claims he is already thinking about a return to Lyon. “Today, with the situation he has at Real, he is at the top of what a football player wants. Play at Real, be very close to your coach, adored by the public. So for now it’s not possible, but Karim has one desire and that is to return to Lyon.”
The player agent also insists that Benzema could be returning to Lyon in a different role. “Yes, I think it is possible for him to return. If he is physically able to play and he feels it is time to come back he will come back. Maybe as a player, but I could also see him returning to Lyon in a different rol. I know he really wants to return.” Benzema developed through Lyon’s academy and he would play in the first team for five seasons, making 172 appearances and scoring 72 goals.
