Former FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned Xavi Hernandez for returning to the club. The former midfielder has been considered a leading candidate to replace Quique Setien next season and reports say that he has already agreed personal terms and is ready to step in. However, Laporta feels Xavi needs to think twice before he jumps in.
“If I were Xavi, I would never come back with this board in control”, Laporta said during an event in Barcelona. The former president, who was in charge between 2003 and 2010, is still undecided if he is ready to enter the race for the Barcelona presidential elections in 2021.
“At this point I don’t want to participate in the elections. I enjoy the weather too much to resist it for a few more years”, Laporta said. “If the conditions are comfortable that might change.” Under Laporta Barcelona enjoyed a very successful spell, winning two Champions Leagues under Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola.
