Italian side Napoli are ready to confirm the transfer of Victor Osimhen from Lille OSC. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Nigerian forward has given the green light to complete the transfer with i Partenopei. It is reported that Osimhen will go through a medical on Thursday before signing a five-year contract with Napoli.
Negotiations and the confirmation were delayed since last week after Osimhen decided to switch agents. The Lille striker was unhappy about the progress made by his former agent and decided to sign with another agency while he was in talks with Napoli. After that his new agent demanded a higher signing fee, which delayed the transfer even more.
It was then reported that Osimhen was doubting a move to Italy would be good for him and his family due to the level of racism in Italy. It was also claimed that the forward wanted to wait on a potential offer from Newcastle United as he would prefer to move to the Premier League ahead of the Serie A. This was later denied by Osimhen’s new agent.
Osimhen will become Napoli’s most expensive player in the club’s history, Sky Italia reports. The Italians will pay an initial €50m, which could rise up to €60m through a series of bonuses. Goal.com even reports that Napoli are paying a total of €80m for the forward, which will be a club record transfer. The current record is still in the hands of Gonzalo Higuain, who was signed from Real Madrid for €39m in 2013.
