Iker Casillas is set to make a shock return to Real Madrid next season, Marca reports. The 39-year-old retired from professional football last year after he suffered a heart-attack. Since then he has worked as a technical director at FC Porto, the club he joined from Real Madrid five years ago.
The report from Marca claims that the Spanish former World and European Champions will be installed as an ‘advisor’ to club president Florentino Perez. While it has not been specified which tasks ‘San Iker’ will take on, it is expected that an announcement of his return to the Spanish capital will be made next week after the La Liga season has been concluded.
Casillas made his professional debut at Madrid after developing through the club’s youth academy. He has made 510 La Liga appearances for Madrid and he would win five league titles and three Champions League’s. In 2015 he left the club after a row with Jose Mourinho. Later on Casillas amitted it was a mistake to leave Madrid.
