Pep Guardiola has a lot of praise for David Luiz, saying that the Brazilian is an exceptional player ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Arsenal in the semi-final of the FA Cup. City have won their last seven outings with Arsenal, the last one ending in 3-0 for City.
It was a nightmare match for Luiz, being introduced as a first half substitution for Pablo Mari. The centre-back misjudged a pass from Kevin de Bruyne that found Raheem Sterling for City’s opening goal before he was sent off the pitch with a red card after he pulled down Riyad Mahrez. The penalty that followed was converted by Kevin de Bruyne.
“I have incredible respect for his career. He’s an exceptional player with incredible mentality and especially personality,” Guardiola told a pre-match news conference. I laugh a lot about all the pundits, they were defenders and believe they didn’t make one mistake in their careers when they played for 20, 10 or 15 years.”
“I like that he is still playing football and I’m pretty sure he’s going to make more good actions and mistakes as that’s part of the game, but with a lot of dignity. I have a lot of respect for this player. A lot.”
