‘If you can play for Barcelona and Bayern you can play in the Premier League’

Pep Guardiola has no doubts that Thiago Alcantara will be able to star in the Premier League. The Manchester City boss refers to his countryman as an ‘exceptional player’. Thiago is set to leave Bayern Munich after spending seven years at the Bavarian giants. He has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Manchester United in recent weeks.

Amid those links several concerns have been issued around Thiago’s history of injuries. People fear the midfielder would not be able to cope with the physical Premier League. However, Guardiola is certain that the former FC Barcelona midfielder, who he signed for Bayern in 2013, will be able to play in the Premier League.

“No doubt about it”, the Spaniard said at a press conference. “A player who plays for Barcelona and Bayern Munich can play in the Premier League. Of course he can play. He’s an exceptional player, but I don’t know what he’s going to do.” Bayern are reportedly asking €40m for Thiago.
