Reports from Spain have claimed that the dressing room of FC Barcelona have lost all confidence in Quique Setien and wants the club to appoint Patrick Kluivert to lead the team in the Champions League. El Mundo Deportivo reports that the Dutchman is a popular figure with the first team and that the squad would be happy if Kluivert would replace Setien.
Kluivert had a stunning career at Barcelona, scoring 122 goals in 257 games for the club. After he ended his career he took several roles into management before signing as the director of youth football at Barcelona. The former Dutch international was appointed at the club last summer and has been enjoying his stay with the club.
The 44-year-old speaks Dutch, German, English, French, Italian and Portuguese and that could help the team come back together again. Under Setien the team has fallen apart, losing the Spanish La Liga title to Real Madrid in recent weeks. Setien has been held responsible for the club’s but president Josep Maria Bartomeu keeps faith in his manager.
Barcelona will end their La Liga campaign on Sunday against Alaves and it is believed that Setien would be given the sack on Monday. After today’s game Barcelona will start their preparation for the second leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie against Napoli. The report claims that the Barcelona players want Kluivert to be appointed for the game with the Italians.
