FC Barcelona will not be making an approach for Xavi Hernandez anytime soon, reports Mundo Deportivo. The former midfielder has been considered by many as a leading candidate to replace Quique Setien, but according to the report it will take until at least 2021 for Xavi to return to this boyhood club.
After a poor final stage of the La Liga season, Barcelona lost the title to Real Madrid last week. Not only the results have been not up to standards, Barcelona’s style of play has been critisised in recent weeks. Fans are calling for the sacking of Setien but the club is keeping faith in their manager even though the results have been poor.
Xavi is considered to be the leading candidate to replace Setien, but it is not expected that Xavi will return to the Camp Nou before the 2021/2022 season. The current Al-Sadd head coach is likely to join one of the new presidential candidates in their campaign to become the next FC Barcelona president. Victor Font, who will be one of the candidates recently expressed his desire to appoint Xavi if he becomes the next club president.
