Chelsea are getting closer to sign Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz, the Athletic reports. The 21-year-old midfielder is one of the most wanted players on the summer transfer market, but the Blues are believed to be the only ones willing to match Leverkusen’s valuation of a prized asset.
The report also states that Havertz himself is keen on joining the Premier League giants, but wants to see how the Premier League season closes down. Havertz wants to play in the Champions League next season and Chelsea are still not sure of a ticket as they are still in a three-man fight with Manchester United and Leicester City.
Chelsea have reportedly made a €50m offer for Havertz and have included several bonuses which could raise the total value of the transfer to €80m, which matches the asking price of Leverkusen. Havertz has made 43 appearances for Leverkusen this season, scoring 17 goals and providing 9 assists.
