Lionel Messi has claimed the LaLiga’s Pichichi trophy this season. The Argentinian forward scored 25 league goals this season, scoring two goals on the final day of the season against Alaves. Messi has also set a new record for the total assists, breaking the record of his former Barcelona team-mate Xavi Hernandez.
Messi set up one goal during Barcelona’s 5-0 win over Alaves, which brought his total up to 21 assists, breaking his former teammate Xavi Hernandez’s assist record set in the 2008/09 season. While the forward is happy to have added yet another record to his books, Messi insists that the team is more important.
“Today, we took a step forward in attitude and commitment. Today, we saw something else,” Messi told, as Marca reports. “It was a difficult game to play because of the situation we were in, the time and the heat. The team responded in a different way in attitude and commitment. Awards and individual objectives are secondary. I’d have liked it to have come with the La Liga title.”
