Nathan Ake could become Manchester City‘s first signing of the summer. The Guardian reports on Monday evening that the Citizens are close to reaching an agreement with Bournemouth for the Dutch international. It is believed that the deal will be worth around €35m for Ake, who joined Bournemouth from Chelsea three seasons ago.
Pep Guardiola is keen on adding a central defender to his squad next season and Ake has been topping his wishlist since January. The former Chelsea defender is also able to play as a left-back, possibly covering for Benjamin Mendy next season. That makes him even more interesting for Guardiola.
Ake has a contract until the summer of 2022 and at first it was claimed that Bournemouth wanted at least €70m for the defender. However, the coronacrisis pandemic and a possible relegation from the Premier League have changed Bournemouth’s mind. The Cherries are currently in the relegation zone, three points behind Watford.
