Arteta happy with Aubameyang talks: ‘I’m confident he will extend his stay’

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is confident the Gunners will be able to extend the contract of star player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beyond next season. The Arsenal captain’s current deal runs out at the end of next season and Arsenal are keen on extending amid speculations about his future.

When asked about the negotiations during a press conference, Arteta said: “I like the way the conversations are going, I like what I’m hearing. I’m sure for both parties, the quicker we can do it, the better for everyone. I am confident he will extend his stay.”

Asked on the reason for his confidence Arteta continued: “He’s generally happy. I think he is enjoying his football. He is settled in the country and his family are good. I think he can sense – and we’ve told him – how much we like him, how much we value him. I think the connection he has with the fans is unique. I believe he is in the perfect place for him.

“Everything I have from him and the people around him is the same. So I don’t have any arguments to say something different.” Aubameyang joined Arsenal in 2018 in a club-record €64m transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Since joining he has made 106 appearances, scoring 66 goals across all competitions.
