Former LaLiga champions Deportivo la Coruna relegated to third Spanish tier

Former Spanish champions Deportivo La Coruña have been relegated to the third tier of Spanish football on Monday. The club itself did not play but was relegated through results in other matches. Coruna’s game was canceled due to coronavirus infections Fuenlabrada, the game was canceled at the last minute.

On the final day of the season Deportivo had the chance to avoid relegation, but with the results not in their favour of the former LaLiga champions relegation was a fact. While Deportivo can still level points with Ponferradina, the result between the teams outweighs the goal difference in Spain.

For Deportivo this is yet another massive blow. The club was relegated to the Segunda division in 2018 and have now been relegated to the third tier. Twenty years ago Deportivo was considered as one of the big clubs in Spain, winning one LaLiga title in 2000 and reaching the semi-final of the Champions League in 2004.
