Liverpool beat Chelsea on historic night at Anfield

Liverpool have won their special championship match in the Premier League against Chelsea (5-3). The match was the perfect prelude of the moment the whole club has been waiting for since 1990. Liverpool will receive the Premier League trophy tonight and had a spectaculair match to make it a historic night for the Reds and Jurgen Klopp.

Chelsea are still fighting for a top four spot and ticket for the Champions League, but the Blues couldn’t make a fist at Anfield in the first half as the Reds opened the score through Naby Keita on 23 minutes. Not long after Trent Alexander-Arnold netted a gorgeous free kick to double Liverpool’s lead. The Reds pressed through and Georginio Wijnaldum scored a third goal for the club bringing the score to 3-0. Just before half-time Chelsea did something back through Olivier Giroud, who was attentive in front of goal to find the net.

In the second half Liverpool dominated once again. Alexander-Arnold’s cross found Roberto Firmino and the Brazilian netted Liverpool’s fourth. Surprisingly, it was his first home goal this season in the Premier League for the Brazilian striker and his first goal in thirteen matches. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard changed his side bringing on Christian Pulisic. The American had an immediate impact as he found Tammy Abraham with a low cross and the forward had a simple finish. Not long after Pulisic found the net himself, finding himself in a one-on-one with Alisson Becker: 4-3.

With Chelsea turning the score the match looked to enter an exciting phase, but with less than ten minutes on the club, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finally closed the game. Chelsea’s defence was broken and Liverpool could have even grabbed a sixth or even a seventh goal. However, the score remained the same and finishing the game at 5-3. Liverpool have the perfect game to celebrate their acceptance of the Premier League trophy.
