Spanish club Villarreal could be breaking their own transfer record this season as the club is nearing an agreement with Real Madrid for playmaker Oscar Rodriguez. Reports claim that Villarreal will pay €25m for the midfielder, who has spent the past two seasons on loan at Leganes.
Rodriguez has been Leganes’ top performer this season in LaLiga scoreing nine goals in 22 starts, but he was unable to stop his club from relegating from LaLiga. Villarreal have been impressed with the development of the midfielder and are now keen to break the books and sign him on a long-term contract.
Villarreal secured a spot in next season’s Champions League and with the departure of Santi Cazorla to Al-Sadd, the Yellow Submarine appear to be an ideal candidate to sign Rodriguez this summer. Madrid would be open to sell the midfielder, but hope to add a buy-back clause into the transfer negotiations. The Spanish giants usually add a buy-clause in the event of a strong development of the player.
