Arsenal are growing confident that they will able to sign Chelsea star Willian this summer, despite Manchester United entering the stage. The Brazilian’s contract is set to expire on July 26 and talks over a short-term extension to play in the Champions League have stalled. The Gunners are currently ahead of their competitors, mainly because Willian wants to stay in London.
Also, United only want to sign Willian as a short-term cover if they miss out on Jadon Sancho this summer. The Red Devils will not be making a move for Willian until their hopes of signing Sancho have faded away. This could mean United push a possible move for Willian ahead until the end of the summer window.
That leaves Arsenal in poleposition to sign Willian, whose family lives happily in London. Sources close to the Brazilian international have admitted to ESPN Brazil that the Gunners have been in talks with Willian’s agent and that the club is growing more confident of a deal as talks continue.
Earlier on Willian had admitted that he would prefer to stay at Chelsea but that the Blues only offered him a two-year contract. “Chelsea only offered me two years and I asked for three. My goal in the next contract is to sign for three years, so I haven’t had a deal with Chelsea yet. This is what I asked the club for, three years of contract. If you give me that, I’ll get the pen and sign the contract tomorrow.”
