David Villa denies harassment allegations as NYCFC investigates

New York City FC have announced that they are investigating a possible harassment by David Villa. The forward has been accused by a former intern on social media that she was subjected to unwanted touching by the Spanish forward while working for the club in 2018. Villa’s agent has also made a statement.

An official statement from NYCFC read: “New York City Football Club has learned of the allegations made by a former intern by seeing them on social media. We take this matter extremely seriously and do not tolerate harassment of any kind in any areas of our organization. We immediately launched an investigation into the matter.”

Posting on Twitter, a former intern wrote that she ‘rarely went a day’ without Villa ‘grabbing me or verbally harassing me,’ and that her bosses thought ‘it was great comedic material.’ She also claimed that Villa had ‘groped’, ‘mocked’ and ‘shoved’during her time with the team.

The former FC Barcelona forward has now also released a statement through the player’s agent: “I strongly object to the accusations made about me on Twitter. These accusations are entirely false and I deny them,” said Villa. “It’s hard to understand why this was not raised previously if any one felt uncomfortable at any time,”he added before asking “the media and the public to please respect my right to the presumption of innocence in this matter.”
