Borussia Dortmund will not be looking for a backup for their main striker Erling Haaland this summer, says the club’s sports director Michael Zorc to Kicker. The German points to Dortmund’s goal record last season as a proof of the strength of their attack with and without Haaland.
The 20-year-old Haaland was signed from Red Bull Salzburg in January and the Norwegian powerhouse has scored 13 goals, helping Dortmund to a club record of 84 league goals. At the end of the season Dortmund finished in second place in the Bundesliga behind champions Bayern Munich.
“We did not score few goals last season,” Zorc told Kicker magazine on Thursday. The club has played with Jadon Sancho and Thorgan Hazard as centre-forwards in some games. “In this sense there is no longer the classic number nine (centre forward),” he said. Zorc did admit that if Sancho would leave, Dortmund will sign a replacement.
