Barcelona are interested in signing Villarreal defender Pau Torres this summer, according to RAC1 journalist Gerard Romero. The 23-year-old is one of Villarreal’s key players and has enjoyed an impressive campaign helping his side secure fifth position and to qualify for next seaon’s Europa League.
Torres has made 35 appearances for Villarreal this season and even earned his first call-up for the Spanish national team in November, replacing Sergio Ramos and scoring a goal in their 7-0 over Malta. It is claimed that Torres has a €50m release clause in his contract at Villarreal, which is set to expire in 2023.
Barcelona could make a move for Torres if Villarreal is ready to accept bids below the release clause. However, the Blaugranas will only be making a move if they manage to sell one or two central defenders this summer. Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo have both been linked with a move away from the club and could be replaced by Torres.
