Inter CEO admits contract talks with Barcelona target Martinez

Internazionale are hoping that Lautaro Martinez will sign a new contract with the club this summer. CEO Giuseppe Marotta has admitted that talks between the club and the Argentinian forward will take place during the off-season. Martinez has been heavily linked with a transfer to FC Barcelona in recent months.

But due to the corona virus pandemic clubs like Barcelona are not able to complete big money transfers this summer. The Catalan giants have already confirmed that they will not be pursuing Martinez this summer as the club suffers from the financial effects from the pandemic. Inter are hoping to take advantage of the situation and have Martinez sign a new deal.

“We are discussing contract renewals with many players, above all the younger ones who we want to work with for a long time, and that includes Lautaro”, Marotta told reporters on Thursday. “We’re doing it calmly, without rush, as there is a rapport of trust. He is happy to wear this jersey and at the opportune moment we will evaluate his future.”

The CEO was also asked about the situation of Alexis Sanchez, who is on loan from Manchester United this season. “We have had some contact with Manchester United to understand if we can extend his [Sanchez] stay after the Europa League play-off with Getafe“, Marotta added.
