The Premier League have announced their official start dates of the 2020/2021 season. The new season in England will start on September 12, concluding the 2020-21 edition on May 23 next year. There will be only 20 days between the 2019/2020 Champions League final in Lisbon and the first match weekend in the Premier League.

While the top flight will end on May 23, the Championship, League One and League Two seasons will culminate on 8 and 9 May. The play-off finals will take place on the final weekend in May. The BBC reports that the Premier League would continue to consult with the English FA and EFL regarding the scheduling of all domestic competitions.

That refers mainly to the teams still playing in European competitions and that could mean a delayed start for one or more teams. Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are still in the Europa League, while Manchester City and Chelsea are still in the Champions League. These tournaments will resume in August and continue until the end of that month.
