Paris Saint-Germain have won the first of two French Cup finals. The Ligue 1 giants beat Saint-Etienne 1-0. Despite the festivities PSG will not be feeling to happy about the game as star player Kylian Mbappe was forced off the pitch after a horrible tackle by Saint-Etienne’s Loic Perrin.
PSG would score the only goal of the game after just 14 minutes of play. The Parisians had Mbappe with a successful dribble and after a one-two with Angel di Maria the French forward launched a shot on goal. It was saved, but the ball came in front of Neymar who had no troubles of finishing the ball and opening the score.
Saint-Etienne appeared as an aggressive side and was clearly there to stop PSG from playing there football. Neymar survived a hard tackle after just two minutes, but Mbappe could not avoid a tackle on his ankle and was forced of the pitch with a possible serious injury. Loic Perrin was given a yellow card for the tackle which was turned into a red card after consulting with the VAR.
Before half-time PSG managed to squeeze in two more shots: a free-kick from Di Maria was saved, Mauro Icardi failed to finish a pass by Neymar. In the second half PSG failed to double there score once more as Di Maria’s shot went wide. Later on Pablo Sarabia also missed a huge opportunity to keep the score at 1-0. Saint-Etienne tried to force a goal, but weren’t able to break through PSG’s defense.
