Kroos on Bale situation: ‘Maybe he is still a bit mad about last year’

Gareth Bale‘s situation at Real Madrid is not helping anyone, says his team-mate Toni Kroos. The Welsh forward failed to claim a regular spot in Zinedine Zidane’s side last term making only 20 appearances across all competitions. After the corona virus lockdown was lifted Bale only made two short appearances for Real Madrid.

Kroos admits that the situation around Bale could be because the club denied him a transfer last summer. The forward was close to completing a big money move to Chinese side Jiangsu Suning only for Zidane to reject the transfer on the final moment stating that Bale would play an integral part in his plans for the 2019/2020 season.

Talking to the Lauschangriff podcast Kroos talked about Bale: : There’s no getting around that the situation is unsatisfying for everyone. He certainly wasn’t brought in to play as little as he does now. I believe that he wanted to leave last summer in principle and that the club signalled a yes at first and then not again. I don’t know if he’s still a bit mad about that. It’s a difficult subject.”
