FC Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that the talks for Lautaro Martinez are at a standstill. The Catalan giants have been trying to sign the Argentinian striker as a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez in their attack, but Bartomeu has now admitted that the clubs have not been negotiating in recent weeks.
“We’ve talked to Inter, but right now it’s at a standstill,” he told Mundo Deportivo. “Our sporting focus right now is on the Champions League, which is just around the corner.” Meanwhile Barcelona are reportedly having faith in Martinez not signing a new contract at Inter this summer.
The president also spoke about Lionel Messi, who has been rumoured to join Internazionale this summer. Bartomeu claims the forward will be staying: “Messi has said on several occasions that he wants to retire here and I have no doubts that he’ll renew [his contract]. I have a very close relationship with him, as I do with all the captains.”
