Neymar will not be joining FC Barcelona this summer, says the club’s president Josep Maria Bartomeu. The Brazilian has been labeled as too expensive by the Catalans and the president has insisted that new players will only join the club in player swap deals. Due to the coronavirus pandemic Barcelona is unable to spend money on the transfer market this summer.
Talking to Marca, Bartomeu said: “Players, if they do not come in swap deals for other players, it is very difficult for them to come.” While he did not name Neymar specifically, it seems likely that the president is referring to the Brazilian Paris Saint-Germain forward, while a move for Internazionale’s Lautaro Martinez has also been put on hold.
The comments of Bartomeu appear to be a blow for Neymar as the forward has been wanting to return to his former club since last summer. The forward has reportedly told his team-mates he wants to leave the club, but with Barcelona pulling out of the deal it seems that Neymar will be spending at least one more season in Paris.
