Internazionale CEO Giuseppe Marotta has cooled talks of a move for FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi. The Argentinian forward has been linked with a potential move to the Nerazzurri in recent weeks, but Marotta has now admitted that signing Messi would be next to impossible and that the club is focusing on other targets.
“It’s fantasy football,” Marotta replied when asked about a potential move on Messi. “He certainly is not one of our objectives and I think he’s interested in continuing his football career in Barcelona.” Earlier this month main sponsor Pirelli acknowledged they could help Inter signing Messi just like Fiat helped Juventus sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
But that is all just talks says Moratta, who is happy with the club’s direction. “What we’ve been able to see is that we’ve improved and therefore we want to continue that process. If we analyse our entire journey, we are happy. There are a few small regrets seeing what happened to those in front of us, but we have to be happy with what we’ve achieved.”
