Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has revealed that he was close to joining Manchester United in 2014. David Moyes hoped to lure the then Bayern Munich midfielder to join him at Old Trafford. However, an offer by Real Madrid during the 2014 World Cup made Kroos decide to join the Spanish giants instead.
“Manchester had a lot of interest in me before the World Cup and a deal was close,” Kroos to the Lauschangriff Podcast. “Then my agent called me and told me about Real Madrid, and when Real Madrid appear you put Manchester behind them in the line. At the World Cup Joachim Low asked me if I was leaving for Madrid, so I told him about it and he was happy for me to negotiate things during the tournament.”
Kroos completed his transfer worth €25m in the summer of 2014, several weeks after Germany won the World Cup in Brazil. Since joining Kroos has made 277 appearances, scoring 68 goals. With the Spanish giants 3 LaLiga championships, 4 Champions Leagues, 4 Club World Cups and 2 Spanish Super Cups.
