Atletico Madrid have rejected a swap deal from Arsenal for midfielder Thomas Partey, reports the Daily Star. The Gunners have been keen on signing the Ghanaian midfielder but are unable to match the midfielder’s €50m release clause. Arsenal have tried to propose a swap deal but Atletico gave the Londoners a firm ‘No’.
The Gunners have been trying to sign Partey for months having several proposals rejected by Atletico. The Spaniards want Arsenal to activate the release clause if they want to sign the midfielder and are not prepared to negotiate terms below the €50m of the clause. Meanwhile it is reported that Atletico want to offer Partey a new deal, doubling the release clause in his contract.
This has urged Arsenal to speed up the deal and their latest attempt was to include a player into the deal plus an initial fee. The report from the Daily Star claims that Arsenal want to include Matteo Guendouzi as a makeweight. The French midfielder has been frozen out at the Emirates following his bust up with Mikel Arteta during Arsenal’s 2-1 loss away at Brighton Hove & Albion in June.
